Portable kitchen islands are units located in the center of the kitchen. Typically they consist of a counter top with drawers and cabinets. As opposed to a standard kitchen island, these units are on wheels and can be scooted across the kitchen with ease. Sometimes referred to as movable kitchen islands, they are a cost effective solution to a normally expensive alternative. Where adding a standard kitchen island involves minor construction and a price tag that can be in the thousands. A portable kitchen island can be inexpensive and with the portability that a traditional island doesn‘t offer, it allows you to move it for easier cleaning, or more room if you need it for certain occasions. You aren‘t limited by the island.
Maximize natural light by having windows and skylights, and keep kitchen wall surfaces light in color to reflect daylight. Custom kitchen islands work great by using pendant or recessed fixtures to direct light onto the kitchen island and other work areas. Electrical codes will likely require that electrical outlets be located on the sides of fixed kitchen islands, not on the top, to prevent electrical shock.
Type of Stainless Kitchen Island: You need to decide for yourself the type of furniture you require. There are many varieties such as a mobile kitchen cart with wheels that can be transported from one place to another easily. Then you will also find single platform as well as double platform kitchen carts, of which the latter can be used to store your cooked meals in the lower shelf while the upper shelf is free to be used as an additional work-space.
Besides meal preparation, the kitchen can become a gathering area for family and friends if there is enough space. Since so much happens in the kitchen on a regular basis, getting the layout right is important. The kitchen island can serve as an additional eating area, and food preparation can easily be done there. In a large kitchen, the kitchen island can shorten the distances within the working triangle (sink, refrigerator and range or cooktop) and make it more efficient.
Portable kitchen islands or carts are just as useful. You want to make sure that ones you look at have heavy duty, locking rubber wheels to keep your island in place especially if you plan to use it for chopping vegetables. There are also islands with drop-leaf extensions giving you more counter space when you need it, but making it easier to store later. Towel bars, spice racks, and paper towel holders are just a few of the many options you have with a portable kitchen cart.
