The easiest and most economical way to update your kitchen is with new lighting and one of the most popular kitchen lights is an island light. Kitchen island lightings are available in several variations and colors. Island chandeliers are a linear lighting fixture that can span the entire length of your bar or island. These are very popular because they have a lot depth and character. Island lighting is available in several light variations from two light versions to four light versions. Homeowners and designers love these because they have the look and beauty of a chandelier but the light is spread out over the length of your island.
Allow adequate countertop space on both sides (left and right) of the kitchen island if a sink or cooktop will be used. Include at least 15 inches of countertop space on each side, and if your kitchen is large enough, allow even more space. You can never have too much countertop space in a kitchen. Also, rounded countertop corners help protect everyone from bad bruises -- this is true about all kitchen countertop corners.
They great thing between these two types of lighting is they are available in several design options from traditional to contemporary. They can set a design scheme in your kitchen that will totally change the look of the room. If you are going for a classical look for your kitchen you should choose a traditional pendant or island light. If you are looking for a more modern look you should choose a transitional or contemporary pendant or island chandelier.
Having a second sink is very practical so adding a sink on the island is a good option for your kitchen design. Or if you want, you may also put a chiller for your wine or a small fridge for a more modern look. You may also put chairs or stools beside the island so that you can have a little chit chat with your friends or family while you are preparing the food or even make it as a second dining area. There are a few possible ways that you can do on your kitchen island, just be sure in what you want.
One con that was noted was placement of an island can disrupt the flow of a kitchen. The work-flow in a kitchen revolves around a triangle of refrigerator, sink, and range. An island can actually disrupt the flow of this working triangle, causing more issues in preparation, cooking, and cleanup. It is important to have placement so there is not a dead zone in the kitchen, or an area of countertop that goes unused due to the placement of the island.
