If you prefer to have a small kitchen island, you may want to consider the size of your kitchen, how deep you want it be and its length. It should not be too deep, too long or too big for your kitchen area. It also should not get in the way of your other appliances in your kitchen. Bear in mind also during the process of your kitchen designs that the island will not block any of your kitchen pathways. It is a great help for the kitchen. That is why adding it should not cause any problem for you or your guest that may enter your kitchen.
One thing is for sure, after looking at the history of kitchen island furniture the only question becomes "What do we have to look forward to?" Over the last thirty years they have gone from being simple tables to put in your kitchen for extra space, to a vital accessory for your kitchen that can have anything from a stove top to a refrigerator. Will there come a day when a kitchen island is more than just a luxury? Some might say they already are.
Kitchen islands are the hottest new kitchen trend. If you are looking to remodel your kitchen, you should consider incorporating one into your design. Preparing meals becomes so much easier because an island provides extra counter and storage space. If you are not interested in remodeling your kitchen but would like to purchase an island anyway, you need to make sure that you have enough space. Ideally, you will have an L-shaped kitchen that is at least 100 square feet. This configuration ensures that you have room for an island and its addition will not make your space too crowded. I do not recommend adding a permanent island to smaller U-shaped or "corridor" kitchens. There simply is not enough space, but a rolling kitchen cart is always an option.
Having a second sink is very practical so adding a sink on the island is a good option for your kitchen design. Or if you want, you may also put a chiller for your wine or a small fridge for a more modern look. You may also put chairs or stools beside the island so that you can have a little chit chat with your friends or family while you are preparing the food or even make it as a second dining area. There are a few possible ways that you can do on your kitchen island, just be sure in what you want.
First you will need to determine the amount of space you are dealing with. Once you have decided the amount of available room, reduce it by six inches. This can provide you with cushion room in the event the manufacturer is off on their measurements. Bring photos in of your current kitchen cabinets. You‘ll want the new unit to blend in as perfectly as possible. If the design or coloring is considerably off it will create an eye sore that you may find to be a nuisance. Also know your budget you have to work with. There may be features you don‘t need that the sales person will assume you want. Having an idea of what you can afford will help you to determine what the best portable kitchen island is for you.
